My Baptismal Covenant

…as ye are desirous to come into the fold of God, and to be called his people, and are willing to bear one another’s burdens, that they may be light; Yea, and are willing to mourn with those that mourn; yea, and comfort those that stand in need of comfort… …to stand as witnesses of God at all times and in all things, and in all places that ye may be in…that ye may be redeemed of God, and be numbered with those of the first resurrection… ~Mosiah 18:8-10

Baptismal hymn about the sacred promises we make with God, great for converts and child of record baptisms

My Baptismal Covenant

This song was among my first compositions, putting lyrics by my friend Margaret Law Aubrey to music. Both the lyrics and the music have been changed over time to bring it to it’s current arrangement. It is a great musical number for both child of record and convert baptismal services as it teaches of the covenant made by us and our Heavenly Father through this sacred ordinance.

My Baptismal Covenant

By Ann Luke Bailey

CHORUS:

Baptism is a covenant we make with God above.

A sacred two-way promise that shows to us His love.

I promise to remember and follow Jesus Christ.

Both in my words and actions, I’ll witness of His life.

I’ll keep all God’s commandments, repenting ev’ry day,

And comfort those who’re feeling sad, ’til they’re O K.

God promises forgiveness when I repent.

And when I live worthy, His Spirit will be sent.

He promises acceptance in His church,

And then He offers me Life Eternal, to live with Him again.
