Lullaby for Christmas Night
Ann Luke Bailey
Little baby of mine, as you go to sleep tonight
Let me tell you of a story told a thousand times or more
About a baby born on this Christmas night.
It was long ago he came, King of Kings, Prince of Peace was his name
No jeweled cradle his, instead, a simple manger was his bed
And at his infant cry, all the angels sang!
So sleep, little baby, every need He will attend
Close your eyes, little baby, and I’ll tell you of your friend
That small baby born in Bethlehem was the Son of God on earth
And through His sinless life, He taught us of our worth.
Shepherds watching for his birth heard the angels as they came to tell the earth
Wisemen saw a wondrous star and gladly journeyed from afar
To give the tiny King gifts of gold and myrrh
So sleep, little baby, every need He will attend
Close your eyes, little baby, and I’ll tell you of your friend
That small baby born in Bethlehem was a gift from God above
That’s why on Christmas Day, we share our gifts of love.
Now my little ones, so sweet, when the story of the earth is complete
I know He’ll come again some day, and if we follow in His way
We can kneel together at the Savior’s feet
So sleep, little baby,
Close your eyes, little baby, and I’ll tell you how it ends
That small baby born in Bethlehem grew up to die alone.
So every baby born can find their way back home….
So that every baby born can find their way back home.
