A Christmas love song composed for the December wedding of my brother, Gary, and his sweet wife, Susan. Later, I arranged it to be sung as a duet and have had many youth choirs enjoy singing it.

Christmas Is Much Merrier in Love
by Ann Luke Bailey
The Christmas season is here
But things are much different this year
I’m finding that when you’re in love,
Glitter falls from above
Making everything appear much better.
Colored lights are brighter than they’ve ever been before
Quiet snows are quieter, and sleigh bells ring much more
Santa Claus is jollier when you sit on his knee
Holly wreaths are ‘holly-er’ and cocoa is more chocolaty
Christmas trees are fancier
Dancing is, well, ‘dancier’
And wait ‘til you make angels in the snow.
Candy canes are stickier,
Firelight is flickerier
And the Christmas story seems less long ago.
Caroling is cheerier when love is in your heart.
Dreary days are drearier when storms keep you apart.
Tinsel is more tinsely, and when the shopping’s done
Hiding gifts beneath the tree and snowball fights are twice the fun.
Buggy rides are longer, icicles grow stronger
And Carolers sound like angels from above.
*And if the mistletoe is missing, we still go right on kissing
Because Christmas is much merrier in love.
Yeah, if the mistletoe is missing, we still go right on kissing
Because Christmas is much merrier in love!
*alternate words for younger singers:
(And though we’re much too young for kissing, we still can go on wishing…)
